Mingkwang is a community-oriented enterprise with the aim to support local farmers in Chiang Rai to live a financially stable life. They teach their farmers to grow rice according to USDA organic standards and buy their yield at a guaranteed higher than market price.
In this way, farmers are able to forecast their incomes to support their families in education, self-development and a promising future. Mingkwang also prides themselves for being responsible for the environment as they do not use chemical pesticides.
This specific rice variety can only be grown once a year, so the batches are still very small. To this day, they continue the traditional methods that rice has been grown and harvested for over hundreds of years. The production process is handcrafted as much as possible, and hence still harvested by hand and dried in the ancient way in the toasty northern Thai sun.
